Getting myself together having spent most of yesterday driving to and from London, taking Edward to his new home. It's an exciting time for him, starting out in the world with so many possibilities opening up and we are happy that he's sorted out such a comfortable place to live.
Today we've put out our Advent plate and will light the first candle later. No good for the willpower, because those lebkuchen, dominostein and other yummy sweeties are amongst my favourites. Shall have to balance the chocolate with a satsuma from time to time!
what a delicious idea Gill! unfortunately we've a tiny winter visitor who we're trying to persuade to vacate the skirting board, so he would take it as a paradisical invite to stay should we put such goodies out!
In Germany the tradition is to have an advent wreath. It is a wreath of greenery like your door wreath but is laid flat wiht the four candles attached to it. They can be quite simple - just greenery and candles, or quite elaborate with bows and ornaments. Each Sunday another candle is lit until all 4 are burning. It's a lovely tradition I think. A nice way to mark the weeks until Christmas
A record of my journey towards
"An elegant sufficiency, content,
retirement, rural quiet, friendship, books,
ease and alternate labour, useful life"
Not there yet. Some way to go!
I knit, I sew, I embroider, I paint and draw and occasionally keep a journal. I do funny things with paper, paint and glue, I make books and other stuff. Not much of this is of any use (with the possible exception of the socks I knit) but I find fun in everything I do. I love colour, texture, pattern and want to do it all perfectly - preferably in the next five minutes.
When I'm not making stuff myself, I'm teaching someone else how to do it (or teaching someone else to teach someone else to do it)

Ooh, I can experience a country Christmas vicariously - that looks yummy, Gill. DS1 and 3 are busy putting the tree up as I type!
